Mr. Moulton is a trial lawyer who has been trying civil and criminal cases in Arizona since 1983. Mr. Moulton has conducted thousands of interviews, insurance examinations under oath and depositions over the years. He has prosecuted or defended—as lead trial attorney—more than 125 criminal and civil jury trials to verdict. In addition, he has participated in thousands of bench trials, evidence hearings, arbitrations and mediations.
Mr. Moulton was a prosecutor from 1984 to 1988. He was a felony prosecutor at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in criminal trial groups and the DUI and traffic homicide unit. He also served as the Flagstaff, Arizona, City Prosecutor. After working as a prosecuting attorney, Mr. Moulton then worked as a claims attorney for State Farm Fire and Casualty Company in Tempe, Arizona, in 1988 and 1989. He graduated from Basic and Advanced Claims School and also served as an attorney instructor and adviser for State Farm’s Special Investigation Unit Arson and Fraud Investigation School.
From 1989 to 2002, Mr. Moulton served as a civil trial attorney at the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company/State Farm Fire and Casualty Company in-house litigation defense firm in Tempe. He handled complex personal injury, wrongful death and insurance-related litigation. In July 2002, Mr. Moulton founded The Moulton Law Firm, P.C., where he continued to serve as lead trial counsel.
Mr. Moulton is a Certified Specialist in Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization (certified in 1998). The certification requires substantial jury trial experience, the recommendation of five other specialists, positive recommendations of opposing counsel and judges before whom he appeared and a passing score on a national examination. There are only approximately 200 such specialists in Arizona.
Mr. Moulton attended the Arizona Prosecuting Attorney’s Advisory Counsel Prosecutor Trial courses, the National College of District Attorneys Career Prosecutor Trial Course, and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Courses (Discovery, Jury Trial, Advanced Jury Trial). Mr. Moulton attended the Arizona Trial College in 1989.
